5 reasons why I drink hemp milk

Whether because of taste, diet restrictions, or lifestyle choices, pretty much everyone drinks plant milk these days.

While choosing plant milk over dairy milk itself is a more environmentally friendly choice, there are some types of plant milk that are more sustainable than others. While oat milk or almond milk tends to be the go-tos, hemp milk is my favorite choice for plant-based milk!

What is hemp milk?

Hemp milk is made from the seeds of the hemp plant. If you have water and hemp seeds (and maybe a little natural flavor or sweetener), you have everything you need to make hemp milk! It has a creamy, nutty flavor, is easy to digest, and is full of nutrients!

Sustainability

Hemp milk is one of the most eco-friendly choices when it comes to plant milk - not to mention it’s super creamy and delicious, all-natural, and so easy to make!

Hemp itself is a sustainable crop. It doesn’t take much room to grow, it’s high-yielding, and all parts of the plant can be used. The leaves and seeds can be made into milk and oil, while the stalks and roots can be used for construction materials, textile fibers, and hemp paper and plastics - so nothing goes to waste!

Hemp is also relatively easy to grow. It can acclimate to many different climates and conditions, is naturally resistant to diseases, and creates shade that helps reduce weeds, so you don’t have to worry about excessive use of herbicides and pesticides.

Health benefits

Another reason I LOVE hemp milk is because of the health benefits! Hemp seeds are packed with vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids.

High in protein

Hemp seeds are a complete source of protein, meaning they provide all nine essential amino acids! There are very few plant sources that are complete sources of protein, so if you’re vegan or vegetarian, this is a huge perk!

Promotes healthy brain function

Hemp seeds contain magnesium, which is essential for your health (you can read all about my love for magnesium in this post!) and brain function. They also contain amino acids which keep your mind calm and omega-3 fatty acids which support your hormones and brain.

Improved DIgestion

Hemp milk is packed with soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber supports gut flora and regulates blood sugar, while insoluble fiber promotes intestinal and digestive health.

Hair & Skin Health

Hemp seeds are rich in omega-3 and omega-6, helping to fight inflammation and aging. Hemp has been shown to improve the health of hair and skin, keep your skin and scalp moisturized, and can even fight acne and signs of aging!
