Your ultimate guide to essential oils

Essential Oils are a simple way to reduce the use of toxic chemicals in your home. They’re powerful and healing, but need to be used responsibly. This guide gives you the tools you need to make sure you’re using your oils in a safe and effective manner.

Dilution for Topical Use:

Do ALL oils NEED to be diluted to avoid a redness or a rash? No. However, diluting oils with a carrier oil helps your skin absorb the essential oil better - making the oils much more effective.

  • For adults, dilute 2-5 drops of essential oil per 1 tsp of a carrier oil.

  • For children, dilute 1 drop with 2 tsp of a carrier oil.

Are oils safe to consume internally?

Just like many things in the health and wellness world, the magical answer of “it depends” hold true to the question “ are essential oils safe to consume internally?”

Some oils from some brands are completely safe to consume internally, while some brands suggest not to for various reasons (worried about people not using them properly, their oils are cut with synthetics, etc).

First, research the brand you’re using and if they have a contact page - reach out to them and ask if their oils are safe to consume internally. A good brand is excited to help their customers in any way they can!

I use Simply Earth, and I was curious about this so I asked. I received a prompt response saying that as a brand, they decided not to advertise that their oils should be consumed internally. However, they hold true to being 100% pure and free of synthetics and are the same quality of essential oil brands that do encourage internal use. So long story short, I add a drop of their Orange Oil into my water every morning - so refreshing and 100% safe!

Diffusing Oils:

Diffusing oils has so many therapeutic properties. It became a habit of mine to fill up my essential oil humidifier and diffuser every night adding a calming lavender oil.

Diffusing oils can also be beneficial during the day too. For an uplifting, happy aroma - diffuse a citrus oil. Or during homework/work hours - diffuse peppermint to promote focus. Or if you’re feeling a little anxious, diffuse a calming lavender to create a warming environment.
