How to combat seasonal allergies with essential oils

It’s officially SPRING! With Spring comes warmer days, more sunshine, chirping birds, and…pollen

If you’re looking for some natural remedies to enjoy the great outdoors without the sniffling, sneezing, and runny nose, here are my top 3 oils to stock up on!

Lemon Oil 

Lemon oil helps reduce the congestion that comes with allergy season so that you can breathe easily. One study found that a lemon oil- based nasal spray helped in the treatment of seasonal allergies. 

Uses

Diffuse by itself or with the other oils listed.

Dilute with a carrier oil and apply topically to your pulse points.



Safety 

When using lemon, or any essential oil, remember to always dilute! You can read more about dilution on this blog post!


Avoid the sun after applying lemon oil. You can find out why in this blog post!


Do not ingest internally. 

Children: Lemon oil is safe for use with children 2 and up. 

Pregnancy: Lemon oil is generally considered safe for pregnant women, but always consult with your OB. 

Cats: Lemon oil is not recommended for use with cats. 

Dogs: Lemon oil is considered safe to use with dogs. 



Lavender Oil 

Lavender is known for its ability to make you feel calm, which is exactly what it can do for your body during allergy season! Lavender helps to calm the irritation caused by pollen and other allergens. A study on lavender showed that it may be effective in reducing allergic inflammation.


Uses

Diffuse by itself or with the other oils listed.

Dilute with a carrier oil and add to your bath.

Dilute with a carrier oil and apply topically to your pulse points.

Peppermint 

Have you ever smelled peppermint and instantly felt your sinuses clear? One study showed that peppermint may reduce inflammation, helping you breathe easier. 



Uses

Diffuse by itself or with the other oils listed.

Dilute with a carrier oil and apply topically to your pulse points.




Safety

Do not ingest internally. 

Children: Peppermint oil should not be used with children under the age of 10. 

Pregnancy: Peppermint oil should be limited and diluted to .5%-1% during pregnancy. 

Cats: Peppermint oil is not recommended for use with cats. 

Dogs: Peppermint oil is not recommended for use with dogs.




Recipes:



Allergy Fighter Diffuser Blend 

  • Lavender 

  • Peppermint

  • Lemon 



Allergy Fight Roller Blend (Adult Dilution)

  • 4-5 drops of Lavender

  • 4-5 drops of Peppermint

  • 4-5 drops of Lemon 

  • Carrier oil of choice 




Directions

  • Add your oils to a 10ml roller bottle

  • Fill to the top with a carrier oil

  • Roll on pulse points as needed

Avoid direct sunlight after applying!
