DIY Nail Growth + Strengthening Serum

I tried dip nail polish for the first time in January… and it did some damage to my natural nails. It lasted about one month and looked so nice when my nails were done but once the polish was off, my natural nails were thinner and a bit brittle.

To grow my nails back, I made a DIY serum using essential oils and my nails are back to being strong! Here’s my DIY recipe that saved my nails and keeps them strong and healthy!

First, you’ll need lavender essential oil. Lavender has many beneficial properties for your overall health, which includes your nails. Lavender is:

  • Antifungal

  • Antibacterial

  • Hydrating

  • It stimulates blood flow that promotes nail growth and healing

Tea tree oil is the next essential oil I use in this serum. Tea tree oil is:

  • Antifungal

  • Antibacterial

  • Anti-inflammatory

Frankincense is one of the best essential oils out there due to its versatility. In this recipe frankincense is:

  • Antiseptic

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Nourishing

Carrier oils are essential to essential oil DIYs (haha, get it?) for many reasons. First, they protect your skin from getting too much concentration from the oil at once on your skin, preventing developing an allergy. They also act as a bonding agent for the essential oil so that it can be properly absorbed for maximum benefit. And thirdly, they can each add some beneficial properties of their own.

In this DIY, you’re free to select your preferred carrier oil, and I’ve laid out the benefits of each for you below!

Coconut Oil:

  • Coconut oil is a versatile and widely used carrier oil known for its moisturizing properties. It is rich in medium-chain fatty acids, which penetrate the nail bed and provide deep hydration. Coconut oil can help strengthen weak nails and prevent them from becoming dry and brittle. Its antifungal properties also make it beneficial for combating nail infections.

Jojoba Oil:

  • Jojoba oil is a popular choice for nail care due to its similarity to the natural oils produced by our skin. It is rich in vitamins and minerals that can help strengthen and moisturize the nails. Jojoba oil absorbs easily into the nail bed, providing hydration and preventing dryness and brittleness. It also helps to protect the nails from damage and breakage.

Sweet Almond Oil:

  • Sweet almond oil is another excellent choice for nail health. It contains essential fatty acids, vitamins E and B, and minerals like calcium and zinc, which are beneficial for maintaining strong and healthy nails. Sweet almond oil helps to moisturize and nourish the nails, preventing them from becoming brittle and prone to breakage. It also promotes healthy cuticles and improves the overall appearance of the nails.

Now, as promised, here is the full recipe for your DIY nail strengthening serum! Be sure to check out the safety information for each oil at the end of this post, so you can use these oils safely!
