Ingredients to avoid in bath bombs

There’s nothing like relaxing in a warm bath with a luxurious bath bomb. But the truth is…many bath bombs are filled with toxic ingredients you definitely don’t want to soak in.

Fragrance

I think by now you know how dangerous synthetic fragrance can be. If you’re unfamiliar - fragrance is an umbrella term used to hide, what a company calles, its trade secret. Oftentimes, toxic chemicals are hiding within the name. These ingredients can lead to; hormone disruption, allergens, and can even contain possible carcinogens. That doesn’t mean you can't find great smelling bath bombs! Look for ones that are naturally scented with essential oils or natural ingredients.

Colors

While the rainbow bath bombs are fun, synthetic colors can cause allergies, inflammation, and skin and eye irritation. Not to mention, most synthetic colors are made from coal tar and petroleum. Instead, look for bath bombs that are naturally dyed or that avoid dyes altogether.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS)

SLS is what gives bath bombs, bubble baths, shampoos, and other products a nice lather! While we all love the suds, SLS is a known irritant for the skin, eyes, mouth, and lungs. It also causes dryness and is toxic to the environment. Thankfully, there are alternatives to SLS, so you can still enjoy the suds without the side effects.

Glitter

Sure, it's cute and fun, but glitter is extremely harmful to the environment. Glitter is made from tiny particles of plastic that eventually end up in our oceans. Besides, do you really want to be scrubbing that off your body and bathtub for the next week?

If you’re looking for a truly natural bath bomb, check out the bath bomb minis from my shop! They’re made with only five natural ingredients and are scented with lavender, wild orange, or eucalyptus essential oils.
