Conventional deodorant seems to claim that it’s the ONLY way to reduce BO, what they don’t tell you is that their ingredients could be harmful for your health and block your pores which is trapping unnecessary bacteria in your body.

On top of that, some of these ingredients can irritate your skin leaving you with a rash, pimples, and other unwanted side effects. This article shares 4 ingredients to avoid while shopping for a safe, all natural deodorant.

Fragrances/Parfum:

Fragrances should be avoided in all skincare products, the one ingredient “fragrance” can be one of over 3,000 different chemicals. Many of those chemicals can trigger eczema, irritation, or are even known carcinogens.

Talc:

The caking agent in the deodorant, with some risks. Research shows talc may cause respiratory and skin irritations and is a possible carcinogen - specifically ovarian cancer.

Triclosan:

Triclosan is an ingredient in antibacterial soap that is used to kill the bacteria. However, it comes with risks and has been banned in Europe for decades and recently has been banned in the US too. Triclosan is a hormone disruptor and some studies show it can cause antibiotic resistance.

Aluminum:

This is the one ingredient that most people look to avoid, which has led to many popular deodorant brands to go aluminum free - that’s the power we have as consumers and really shows how we vote with our dollars with every purchase we make. Some studies linked Aluminum in antiperspirants to breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease, although many still argue that it's safe. Since aluminum plugs your pores, stopping the sweat, it can make you feel hotter & not in a good way. Sweat is your body's natural response to cool you down, when you plug sweat ducts with antiperspirant your body may overheat more easily. Aluminum is also to blame for those “sweat stains” on your white tees. Ditch antiperspirant and opt for an aluminum free option. And last but not least, it can irritate your skin causing rashes, pimples, or skin discoloration.

The swaps are simple, Native is a great deodorant brand that is completely free of all these ingredients and can be bought on Amazon. Shop Native Deodorant here*.

Or, you can use what I use, the crystal deodorant made out of mineral salt - straight from Earth. You rinse it under water, apply to one underarm, rinse again and switch arms, and rinse one last time when you're finished. I’ve been using this deodorant for about 6 months and love it so far. They’re available on my website! :)
