Top 10 Ways to Use Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is one of my favorite oils for how versatile it is, when it comes to anything involving the skin/scalp - tea tree oil is almost always the answer. Here are my top ten ways to use it:

  1. Acne treatment: Tea tree oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that make it an effective treatment for acne. Learn how to make a DIY facewash for acne prone skin here.

  2. Head lice treatment: Mix a few drops of tea tree oil with coconut oil and massage into the scalp. Leave on for several hours before washing out.

  3. Household cleaner: Add a few drops of tea tree oil to a spray bottle filled with water to create a natural and effective household cleaner.

  4. Dandruff: Add a few drops of tea tree oil to your shampoo to reduce dandruff.  See how to do it here.

  5. Sinus and respiratory relief: Add a few drops of tea tree oil to a bowl of steaming water and inhale the steam to help relieve sinus and respiratory congestion.

  6. Aromatherapy: Diffuse a few drops of tea tree oil in your home to create a refreshing and invigorating atmosphere.

  7. Nail fungus treatment: Soak affected nails in a mixture of tea tree oil and warm water to help treat nail fungus. Get your DIY kit here.

  8. Minor wound and cut treatment: Apply a few drops of tea tree oil to minor wounds and cuts to help prevent infection.

  9. Laundry freshener: Add a few drops of tea tree oil to your laundry detergent for added freshness and disinfectant benefits. I add this in especially soiled clothing loads, like hiking gear.

  10. Insect repellent: Mix tea tree oil with a carrier oil and apply to exposed skin to help repel insects.
