Why avoid synthetic fragrance in your home?

…and DIY Essential Oil Room Sprays?!

Synthetic fragrance comes from things like air fresheners, candles, plug-ins, cleaning products, shampoo, body wash, and even baby products.

Of course, we all want to smell great, and who doesn’t love walking into a room that smells like daisies and sunshine?! But unfortunately, synthetic fragrance comes at a cost.

What is fragrance?

The term “fragrance” as an ingredient refers to thousands of questionable chemicals that are considered proprietary blends. Any one of these compounds could be an allergen, irritant, or harmful carcinogen

Synthetic fragrances are also a significant contributor to indoor air pollution. Many have been shown to emit more than 100 VOCs, including some classified as toxic or hazardous by federal laws. Even products advertised as “green,” “natural,” or “organic” emitted as many hazardous chemicals as standard ones.

Fear not, fragrance lovers, because not all fragrance is bad! We have to look past these lab-made fragrances and get straight to the source. Diffusing essential oils or making fun room sprays is the natural way to keep your home smelling fresh! Scenting your home with essential oils is cost-effective and environmentally friendly. Not only are essential oils safe, but they can also offer therapeutic benefits!

Below you’ll find a few of my favorite DIY room sprays. If you don’t have these exact oils, switch them out for something similar. These recipes and ratios are very forgiving!
