How to reduce stress during the holidays

The holidays are here! Although the holidays are supposed to be a time full of joy and cheer, for many the holidays come with feelings of sadness and stress. Between the parties to attend, gifts to shop for, and trying to fit in all the fun holiday activities, it can be overwhelming. The stress of the holidays can feel all-consuming, but the good news is there are things you can do to naturally reduce your stress levels!

Adaptogens are a great way to reduce stress and help you find balance!

What are Adaptogens?

Adaptogens are adaptogenic substances that increase the body's ability to cope with internal and external stresses. Herbs and mushrooms such as reishi mushroom, ashwagandha, and eleuthero root have been used for centuries by Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic healing traditions for their adaptogenic properties.

Adaptogens to Reduce Stress

  • Ashwagandha balances cortisol levels, which helps reduce and manage the body's stress response.

  • Reishi Mushroom has anti-inflammatory properties and is rich in selenium, fighting oxidative stress.

  • Eleuthero Root works to increase energy, decrease fatigue, and promote cognitive function when under stress.

  • Rhodiola Rosea has been shown to reduce anxiety and help balance cortisol levels after exercise.

  • Maca Root can reduce stress and regulate serotonin levels.

How to Use Adaptogens

Although adaptogens are typically found in herbs and mushrooms, you can often find adaptogens in powder form!

My favorite is the Balance My Stress (Save $5 with code, ‘LIVHOLISTIC’ order here.) blend from Peak + Valley. It has a chocolate herbal taste, so it’s perfect for adding to your holiday hot cocoa or peppermint mocha for a daily dose of stress-reducing adaptogens!

Cheers to more joy and less stress this holiday season!
