5 Simple swaps to begin reducing toxins in your home

It may feel overwhelming when you’re just beginning to learn about the toxins in your everyday products. But don't worry, I’m here to help! There are small changes you can make that can have a huge impact on your health. Here are 5 simple swaps to begin reducing toxins in your home.

1. Ditch Your Dryer Sheets

Of all the cleaning products in our homes, dryer sheets and fabric softeners are some of the most toxic! They are formulated with heavy chemicals and loads of fragrance. Next time you run out of dryer sheets, purchase wool dryer balls instead! They’re non-toxic, help your clothes dry faster, and are better for the environment!

If you want your clothes smelling extra fresh, add a few drops of essential oils to your dryer balls before tossing them in!

2. Glass over Plastic

Plastic is damaging to both our bodies and the environment. Plastic containers contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals that can leach into the food you store in them. Switching to glass containers or stainless steel is a simple way to reduce plastic exposure.

3. Switch out Your Candles

It's nice to light a candle at the end of the day to freshen up your space and create a nice ambiance. However, most candles release chemicals into the air that can cause a host of health problems. Instead of traditional paraffin wax candles, beeswax candles are a great clean option!

4. Say Bye-Bye to Bleach

You may think bleach is a staple to ensure your clothes are bright and white and your bathroom is squeaky clean, but there are other options. Next time you run out of bleach, grab some vinegar instead! Mix equal parts water and vinegar with a few drops of lemon essential oil for a natural cleaning solution!

5. Avoid Synthetic Fragrance

We all want our homes to smell nice, but just like candles, most air fresheners release chemicals into the air that can cause a host of health problems. Instead, opt for a diffuser with essential oils. You’ll get the same great scents without the chemicals, plus the added therapeutic benefits!
