The Ultimate Guide to Using Essential Oils with Pets (Don’t make these mistakes)

I would do anything for my dog, Toby, and cat, Ziggy.

I think most of us would. We love our pets like family because they ARE family!

If you’re using essential oils around your loved furbabies, let’s make sure you’re using them safely and properly for everyone in the house.

Here are the DO’s and DON’Ts of using essential oils around pets.

DO:

Diffuse in larger open rooms

When diffusing in smaller rooms with a pet, crack a window and leave the door to the room open so your pet has the option to leave the room if they want

Check safety of the oil before applying topically

Store essential oils out of reach of pets

Dilute with a carrier oil before applying topically to a dog

DON’T:

Apply any essential oil topically to a cat

Trap a pet in a room with a diffuser

Put essential oils in food or water bowls

Avoid these essential oils topically + diffused in small rooms for dogs:

  • Cassia

  • Clove

  • Cypress

  • Eucalyptus

  • Rosemary

  • Spearmint

  • Tea Tree

  • Ylang Ylang

Avoid these essential oils topically + diffused in small rooms for cats:
