Top 10 Ways to Use Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon essential oil is derived from the rind of the lemon fruit and has a fresh, citrus scent that makes it a popular choice for use in a variety of applications, including household cleaning, aromatherapy, and personal care products. The oil is extracted through a process of cold-pressing the lemon rind, which yields a concentrated oil that is high in natural compounds like limonene and citral.

Here are my fave uses and DIY recipes for lemon oil!

DIY Air Freshener

Lemon essential oil is a versatile and effective addition to any household cleaning routine. Its natural properties make it an excellent alternative to harsh chemicals, as it is both effective and safe to use. The oil is derived from the rind of the lemon fruit, and has a fresh, citrus scent that makes it a popular choice for use as an air freshener.

One of the primary benefits of using lemon essential oil as an air freshener is its natural antibacterial properties. When diffused or misted throughout a room, the oil can help to eliminate unpleasant odors and leave the space smelling clean and fresh. This makes it an ideal choice for use in bathrooms, kitchens, and other areas of the home where odors can be a problem. See below for my go-to DIY for my air freshener!

In a 200 ml continuous mist bottle combine:

1/4 C witch hazel or alcohol

Fill with water

30 drops of lemon essential oil

Stuffy Nose Expectorant

Lemon essential oil can be mixed with a carrier oil and applied topically to the chest and throat area. This method can be especially effective for those experiencing congestion or coughing. Simply mix a few drops of the oil with a carrier oil such as coconut or almond oil, and apply the mixture to the chest and throat area. The oil can help to open up airways and promote clear breathing, making it easier to breathe and reducing symptoms such as coughing.

*Avoid direct sunlight after applying lemon oil topically, or cover skin, or wear a hat

Remove Sticker Residue

Lemon essential oil is also a great natural solution for removing stubborn sticker residue. Its natural solvents can help to break down the adhesive, making it easier to remove stickers and their residue without damaging surfaces. Simply apply a few drops of the oil directly to the residue and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, use a cloth or scraper to gently remove the residue. Repeat the process if necessary until the residue is completely removed. This method is not only effective but also safe for use on a variety of surfaces, including glass, plastic, and metal.

Freshen Carpets

Similarly to deodorizing shoes, lemon oil is also great for maintaining your carpets. The natural antibacterial properties of the oil can help to eliminate odors and leave your carpets smelling clean and fresh. To use lemon essential oil on your carpets, simply combine 2 cups baking soda with 10 drops of lemon oil, sprinkle over carpets, let sit for 2 hours, then vacuum up. Be sure to test the solution on a small, inconspicuous area of your carpet first to ensure that it does not cause discoloration or damage. Allow the solution to dry completely before walking on the carpet. You can also add a few drops of lemon essential oil to baking soda and sprinkle the mixture over your carpets before vacuuming. This is a great way to freshen your carpets and leave your home smelling clean and inviting.

Respiratory Support

Aromatherapy

It has a fresh, citrus scent that is uplifting and invigorating, which can help to promote feelings of energy and positivity. When used in aromatherapy, lemon essential oil can be diffused throughout a room to create a refreshing and energizing atmosphere. To do this, simply add a few drops of the oil to a diffuser filled with water, and let the oil diffuse throughout the room. This is a great way to experience the benefits of the oil in larger spaces, like living rooms or bedrooms. It also works to diffuse after cooking to absorb food odors and create that AMAZING fresh smelling aroma.

Alternatively, lemon essential oil can also be used for personal aromatherapy, by adding a few drops of the oil to a cotton ball or tissue and inhaling the scent directly. This is a great way to experience the benefits of the oil on-the-go or in smaller spaces, like offices or cars.

In addition to its uplifting properties, lemon essential oil also has many benefits for reducing stress and anxiety. Its calming properties can help to reduce feelings of tension and promote relaxation.
