Top 10 Ways to Use Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Sweet orange essential oil is derived from the peels of sweet oranges, which are a type of citrus fruit. The sweet orange tree, also known as Citrus sinensis, is believed to have originated in China and was later introduced to Europe and the Americas. Today, sweet oranges are widely cultivated in warm regions around the world, including the United States, Brazil, Spain, and Italy. The essential oil is typically extracted through a process of cold-pressing the peels of the fruit, which helps to preserve its natural properties and fragrance.

Here are the top 10 ways to use sweet orange oil!

Aromatherapy

Sweet orange essential oil is a versatile and popular essential oil that has a wide range of benefits. One of the most popular uses of sweet orange essential oil is in aromatherapy. The oil has a fresh, sweet, and citrusy scent that is uplifting and energizing. It can be used in a diffuser to create a refreshing and invigorating atmosphere in a room.  And, when used in a diffuser, sweet orange essential oil can help to purify the air and neutralize unpleasant odors.

To use, simply dilute the oil in a diffuser to create an uplifting and energizing atmosphere in your home!

Promotes Mood Enhancement

Sweet orange essential oil is also known for its mood-boosting properties. The oil can help to reduce feelings of anxiety and depression and promote a sense of happiness and well-being. Inhaling the scent of sweet orange essential oil can help to improve mood and increase focus and concentration, making it a popular choice for those who need help staying focused and productive throughout the day.

My fave way to use it for my moods is by directly inhaling the aroma from the bottle, placing a few drops on a tissue, or by using a personal inhaler to help improve my moods and reduce stress!

Homemade Cleaners

Sweet orange essential oil is a powerful antiseptic that can be added to natural cleaning products to provide a fresh scent while effectively cleaning surfaces. Its natural antibacterial and antiviral properties make it an effective natural cleaner and degreaser. It can be added to homemade cleaning solutions and sprays to clean and disinfect surfaces such as countertops, floors, and bathrooms.

I use it in my homemade “windex” solution:

1 cup vinegar

1 cup water

10 drops sweet orange essential oil

And just use as you would normal window cleaner for a streak-free, nontoxic, and uplifting cleaner!

Body Scrub

Sweet orange essential oil can also be used in body scrubs for its exfoliating and skin-nourishing properties. When added to a body scrub, the oil helps to remove dead skin cells, leaving the skin soft and smooth. The oil also helps to nourish and moisturize the skin, leaving it looking and feeling healthy and radiant.

Not only does the sweet orange essential oil provide a refreshing and invigorating scent to the body scrub, but it also provides a range of benefits for the skin. The oil helps to stimulate the production of collagen, which can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also helps to improve circulation and promote cell regeneration, which can help to improve the overall appearance of the skin. And, if that isn’t enough, it also creates smoother, vibrant skin by reducing acne.

Natural Air Freshener

Sweet orange essential oil can help to neutralize unpleasant odors, making it a popular choice for use in air fresheners and natural deodorizers. Its fresh and citrusy scent can help to create a clean and refreshing environment in your home. Here’s my go-to DIY air freshener recipe:

In a 200 ml continuous mist bottle combine:

1/4 C witch hazel or alcohol

Fill with water

 30 drops of sweet orange

Spritz around your living spaces to eliminate odors as needed.

Skincare

Sweet orange essential oil can also be a great addition to your facial skincare routine. Its antibacterial properties can help to combat acne and other skin blemishes. Additionally, sweet orange essential oil can help to stimulate the production of collagen, which can improve the elasticity and firmness of your skin. This can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.

To use sweet orange essential oil in your facial skincare routine, add a drop of the oil to your regular facial cleanser or moisturizer. This can help to refresh and rejuvenate your skin, leaving it looking and feeling healthy and radiant.

However, it is important to note that sweet orange essential oil can be photosensitive, which means that it can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. To avoid any potential skin irritation, it is recommended to use sweet orange essential oil in the evening or when you will not be exposed to direct sunlight.

You can also mix the oil with Epsom salts or a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil for added relaxation and skin-nourishing benefits. The oil can also be added to a diffuser or used in a massage oil for further stress-relieving effects.

Cuticle Care

Sweet orange essential oil is not just for aromatherapy and stress relief, it is also a great addition to your nail care routine.

Sweet orange essential oil can help to nourish and strengthen your nails, making them less prone to breakage and damage. This is due to its high content of Vitamin C, which plays a crucial role in the production of collagen. Collagen is essential for nail health, as it helps to maintain the structure and strength of nails.

Its antifungal and antibacterial properties help to protect your nails from infections, while its nourishing and strengthening properties make them less prone to breakage and damage. By incorporating sweet orange essential oil into your nail care routine, you can achieve healthier and stronger nails that look and feel great.

To use sweet orange essential oil on your nails, mix a few drops of the oil with a carrier oil such as almond or coconut oil. This helps moisturize and nourish your cuticles and prevents hangnails. It also helps strengthen your nails and helps them grow faster by promoting blood flow. Massage the mixture onto your nails and cuticles, focusing on any areas of dryness or damage. For an even more nourishing experience, you can add the oil to warm water and coconut oil and let your nails soak in the mixture for a few minutes.

And as always, remember to perform a patch test before applying sweet orange oil or any other essential oil directly to your skin to check for any adverse reactions. Additionally, when using essential oils, ensure proper dilution and follow safety guidelines for each specific use.
