Creating a Low Tox Bathroom: Personal Care Products Edition

So, you're ready to create a low tox bathroom?

You've probably already replaced your cleaning products and learned to freshen up the space with essential oils rather than toxic air fresheners, but now it's time to take stock of your personal care products.

There's no need to get overwhelmed because I've broken it down into just three simple steps.

Take stock

First things first, scan your products with the Think Dirty or EWG app. I always like to take an educated approach, so instead of tossing everything and switching to something that claims to be clean, look at what ingredients are inside your current products. If they rank as not so great on the apps, take a minute to learn why. For example, maybe they contain fragrance or parabens or have been known to irritate your skin over time. These are things you should about if you’re using these products every day!

Decide what products you need to swap

Now that you've scanned your products, decide what needs to go and what's safe. Don't get overwhelmed if you have a lot of products or realize everything needs to go. Instead of tossing everything, swap one product at a time. When something starts running low, purchase a cleaner option. This process may be a bit slower, but it's more sustainable and budget-friendly!

Find a clean replacement

Now it's time to replace your products with something cleaner. My favorite clean personal care brand is Plaine Products. Their ingredients are pure, vegan, free of sulfates, chemicals, and hard-to-pronounce ingredients, AND they're refillable, reusable, and zero waste.

Plaine Products has created a super simple system to refill your favorite products and send them back your bottles for reuse. I love all their personal care products, and their mission to create clean products that are good for you and the planet is something that makes them that much better!
