My Top 5 Nontoxic DIYs for a Holistic Home

Reducing toxins in your home is an essential part of maintaining a healthy environment for you and your family. Many commercial cleaning products and personal care items contain harmful chemicals that can negatively impact your health and the environment. 


The good news is that there are simple and affordable ways to create non-toxic alternatives using natural ingredients!


Here are  five easy DIY recipes that you can make at home, including a glass cleaner, dry shampoo, dish soap, nail growth serum, and air freshener. Each recipe is made with simple ingredients that are easy to find, and they're all effective at getting the job done without the use of harsh chemicals.

Glass Cleaner

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup vinegar

  • 10 drops of lemon essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle.

  2. Shake well before use.

  3. Spray onto glass surfaces and wipe clean with a microfiber cloth.

This glass cleaner is effective at removing dirt and grime from mirrors, windows, and other glass surfaces, while the lemon oil leaves a refreshing scent.




Dry Shampoo:

Adjust the recipes according to your hair color:

In  a 4 oz jar with a lid, combine:


Blondes:

  •  2 Tbsp arrowroot powder

  • 1/2 Tbsp Cocoa powder


Brunettes:

  •  1 Tbsp Cocoa powder

  •  1 Tbsp arrowroot powder


Red Hair:

  •  1 Tbsp Paprika powder

  •  1 Tbsp arrowroot powder 


Black Hair:

  •  2 Tbsp Charcoal powder

  •  1/2 Tbsp Arrowroot powder



Dish Soap:

To make combine ingredients in a pumping container:

  • 1 3/4 C filtered water 

  • 2/3 C castile soap

  • 20 drops of essential oil

  • 5 drops of lavender.

  • 1 Tbsp of aloe Vera gel 



Nail Growth Serum:

In a 1 oz dropper bottle:

  • 1/2 oz almond oil

  • 1/2 oz grape seed oil 

  • 5 drops frankincense oil

  • 5 drops lavender oil

Apply to nails every evening. 



AIr Freshener:

In a 200 ml continuous mist bottle combine:

  • 1/4 C witch hazel or alcohol

  •  Fill with water 

  •  30 drops of essential oil of your choice!

Spray on furniture, in bathrooms, closets, etc. This is the nontoxic swap for home fragrances!
